Transforming the Grace House garden - Corporate Volunteering project
24 March 2016
Grace House is a Sunderland based children's charity providing services to children and young people with complex disabilities, health needs and life limiting conditions and their families. Based in a purpose-built, state of the art facility in Southwick, Grace House provides regular, planned residential experiences for disabled children and young people aged 5-18, alongside a range of social, therapeutic and support services for their families. Set in its own extensive gardens, Grace House is a fully accessible, interactive, fun and lively place for children to come and stay, to take advantage of the fantastic play and leisure facilities on site.
The Grace House gardens have the potential to stimulate all the senses. Our vision is to make the outdoors as therapeutic as the indoors - mixing music, light therapy and visual arts with plants of all shapes, sizes, colours and scents.
However, the extensive gardens are in constant need of attention, and this is where you come in.
By enabling small teams of your employees to come and volunteer at Grace House for a day, you will give them the opportunity to participate in a worthwhile community project with a real purpose and clear end goal that will make a huge difference to the lives of disabled children at Grace House.
Volunteers will get all the benefits of team building in a different environment, as we aim to inspire confidence in their own abilities, engage them in creative problem solving tasks, give them the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and reduce the risk of stress and burn out.
We are therefore seeking companies who have teams of up to 8 people who could be released from work for a day, to come and volunteer at Grace House and contribute to the garden transformation. Volunteering days will be available on selected dates between April and October 2016.
All work will be fully supervised and risk assessed. Tasks will be physical and therefore only suitable for those fit and well enough to work in the garden for a day

Add even more value to the contribution your staff team will make.
By giving your staff team a small grant to use during their volunteering day, you can significantly enhance the impact that your company will have on the Grace House garden project. The estimated cost of maintaining the gardens each year is £9000 which covers expert gardeners, landscaping, new planting, tools and outdoor multisensory equipment suitable for children with complex disabilities. All support will be acknowledged through social media and local press, with opportunities for photoshoots and other publicity/promotion.back to the news
