King Sturge Rally for Grace House

Martin Smith, Senior Building Surveyor at King Sturge in Newcastle has completed a 1,400 mile car race in an old banger, raising over £3,000 for the Grace House appeal.

Martin teamed up with three university friends to drive the old Volvo 940 across France and Italy in just four days.  The Volvo, which had 190,000 miles on the clock before he even started the race, was kindly donated by Mill Volvo in Sunderland and quickly transformed into a black and white ‘Cow Moobile’ in a bid to make it stand out from the other competitors.

Martin Smith of King Sturge said: ‘Participating in the race was a fantastic experience and the residents of all destinations appeared to take the ‘Cow-Moobile’ to heart.  Fortunately the car did not break down during the trip and made it all the way in one piece.  More importantly we managed to raise a substantial amount of money for the Grace House North East appeal, a very worthy cause’.
