Peter Bags Charity Prize

But he will be giving the Nissan Micra to his wife because it's too small for his double bass.

Nissan's Wearside factory donated the red Micra to the appeal for the prize draw.

Peter, 39, of Ashbrooke, who plays double bass in local jazz trio The Bicycle Thieves, will give the car to wife Cathy, 41, a full-time mum to Joseph, four, and Daniel, two.

Peter said: "I'm thrilled with the car and never for a minute thought I'd actually win.

"The hospice appeal is a really worthwhile cause and I'm delighted that the raffle has raised so much."

The Grace House Appeal is raising money to build a children's hospice in Sunderland.

Peter received his prize from nine-year-old Grace Jones – after whom the hospice will be named – and her mum Debra.

Kathy Secker, founder of Grace House North East, said: "It was a most generous gesture from Nissan to donate a car for raffle. We are enormously grateful for their support."
